I would like to replace a simple extractor fan in my kitchen with a cooker hood. The existing fan is connected to the lighting circuit via a fused double pole switched spur. Can I wire the cooker hood in the same way (power consumption 2x40w bulbs and 80w fan - 160w total) or does this have to be wired to a switched fused spur from the ring main.
As long as the fuse rating offers discrimination to the cooker hood and safety for the cable supplying it.
Power/volts= current so 160/230=0.7
so 3amp fuse in swithed spur
