Double up rafters for roof windows

by fmck » Fri Dec 24, 2010 9:23 pm

I want to replace my old cast iron sky lights with velux windows but will involve cutting the already rotten (localised) rafters. I will double up both rafters on either side to compensate for the one cut out in the middle.

Does anyone know if its ok to use the correct grade timber fixed onto the existing running from wallplate to ridge but with 2 sections of timber joined. ie. Rather than one section.

BTW: There is no room to fit timbers on either side of the window.
