Drilling the ceiling/floor to pass ethernet cable to 1st floor

Post by GeorgPat » Tue Nov 03, 2020 12:17 pm

I would like to pass an ethernet cable from the ground to the 1st floor. I thought maybe to drill the ceiling through the 1st floor close to a corner and pass the cable.
Is this a good idea in general? It sounds risky.
Do you know what will have to drill through? Is it plasterboard and wood? Are there any special support close to the corners? What's the the length from ceiling to floor?
I own a UK "new" build house build in 2017.

Hi georgepat
You will have to investigate using a small long masonry drill going upwards where you would like the cable to be.
This will give you a fair idea as to whether there is a clear path - do not be tempted to push hard on the drill.
