Electrical - Wiring a double switch to two lights.

Post by Paul Bryan » Mon Sep 29, 2008 5:04 pm

Moved into a house built in the 1960’s. The Lounge/Dinner had two ceiling lights run from a double switch. Previous occupant removed and plastered over the lights and switches then used up-lighters. I want to re-install the original lights. I have revealed the old wiring but unable to work out how to wire the new lights. I have two 3-core cable (red, black & earth) at the switch. Both ceiling lights have three (3 core) cables. The red wire running from the switch to each light has been cut off.
With only one wire running from the switch to each ceiling light, how do I wire the double switch and lights?

There are many projects in the projects section which may help also http://www.ericpalmer.fsnet.co.uk/Lighting.html where I refer to two way wiring of lighting on stairs I show borrowed lives and point out the problems with this practice.
After reading you must consider if you want to continue or not.
