En Suite Electrics

Post by billobach181 » Mon Nov 30, 2009 5:09 pm

We an en-suite shower room and toilet. The shower is a Digital Pumped shower of a 6amp spur and tied back to an MCB at the consumer unit. My question is this:- Can I take a spur off the Bedroom Ring Main through an isolating switch and then to a 6 amp RCD/RCBO unit located in the cupboard outside the en suite for the Pump and Light. Light in the shower is Low Voltage. All the en-suite fittings are totally bonded.
The reason for doing this is because its a long torturous route back to the CU.

After a fashion yes, this is the usual way I wire a shower pump. be aware though that the cable, if burried in the wall, must be protected for the whole of the new length, so your fused spur either needs to be next to the socket it feedsfrom or you must run the cable in trunking.
Your main problemis that this work is notifiable under part P regulations as the ensuite is classed as a special location
