Fireplace removal query

Post by morf » Sat Jul 07, 2007 4:18 pm

In the middle of our lounge, an old back boiler fireplace sticks into the room about 2 foot, and splits the room quite bad..
We would like to remove this, making the room more open.

The fireplace butts out on the supporting wall in the middle of the house..

The previous occupiers did the same thing with the upstairs portion removed the backboiler, and the flue. along with the upstairs portion of the fire place..

BUT

After looking, the front wall part of the fire place is supporting 2 staggered joists, which both end straddling the wall.
This makes me think that we cant actually remove it.
Help!

Also, would this need some for of permission?
