Gland nut won't budge

I need to replace a washer/ or clean seat on a leaking pillar tap but the gland valve (hexagonal brass nut thing) won't budge. Any tips?

are you turning it the right way? it may have a reverse thread

hi
i had same problem today
turn of water disconnect pipe work remove locking nut that holds the tap to basin remove tap and place in a vice then work from there
