I have some garden furniture which has a kind of distressed, vintage, flaked paint finish (see image) that I really like and want to keep. The only issue is that I need to protect it from the elements. The furniture is teak so I was thinking of just coating them in teak oil, but I'm worried that it won't work well as the paint is flaking, or that I'll take the paint off when I prepare it before treating.
Any thoughts? I really don't want to lose the paint job if possible, but at the rate the paint is flaking, I know I need to treat it sooner rather than later.
