How Worried Should I be About a Hole in my Drainage Channel?

by SeanyMo » Sun Apr 07, 2019 4:26 pm

Hello,

I am hoping to get some advice regarding a hole that has appeared in a drainage channel that runs around the outside of my house, please.

Basically, there is a drainage channel running snug along the front of our house like a concrete moat, leading to a drain (same drain to which the drain pipe for roof water runs). I guess this is a channel to deal with surface rainwater.

However, a hole has appeared in the concrete of this channel, and now the water is "pooling" in and around the hole rather than flowing to the drain.

My questions are (i) how serious is this and (ii) is this something a novice could seek to fix themselves or would it be better to call in an expert (and if the latter who would be the right trades-person to call)?

Any and all advice appreciated.
