Installing a Lintel to a first floor window

by paulieandy » Sat May 26, 2007 5:24 pm

I am in the process of building a new main bathroom and there is no window at present in the propsed room, therefore I need to open up the brickwork to form a window. I need to know how do you support the existing brickwork while you are fitting a new lintel as its on the first floor. Do I use two props inside and two props outside, if so how do the props on the outside fit/work?

I would calculate the load on the new lintol and install cantilever props on the inside, ie four acrow props alltogether, the two furthest will take some uplift but if they are a few metres apart the loads will not be excessive.
