Issue With Existing Cable Length for new Wall Lights

by BinarySecond » Tue Aug 06, 2019 3:35 pm

Hello,

I removed some old wall lights in my front room with a view to install some of
these

I've got Twin and Earth coming to the location, but it's been cut down over the years it would seem so I don't have a lot to work with.

Is there any issue with me using a terminal block to extend the Live and Neutral with some 1.5mm cable? The ikea light is odd as there's no earth but it's a class 2 product, so the earth will just be left unconnected.

Someone at work suggested just soldering some extra wire on but some light reading on the subject set my decision well against that.

Thanks

Unless you can access the terminal block at a later, you should use something that is "maintenance free"
Also what I was going to suggest are actually easier than connector block. Have a search for "Wago connectors"

Thanks Mr White,

We sell these at my work so I'll go and take a look at them and see if they'll fit in my working space!
