Lay mineral wool insulation directly over loose fill in loft?

by jasposh » Mon Jan 13, 2020 10:25 pm

Hi.

My loft is currently insulated with a very thin and inconsistent layer of loose fill (recycled paper I think) insulation. I am looking to use mineral wool insulation but can this be laid directly on the top of the loose fill or is there a reason why I would need to remove this first?

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

Yes you can lay your new insulation directly over the loose fill provided you do the following.

1. Even out the loosefill insulation throughout the attic so you have an even surface.

2. Ensure you are not covering any wires or light fittings. If you do, get downlight cover huds and insert them over the light fittings to protect them. If there are any wires just lift them up being careful not to disturb any connections and then lay it back down on top of your new insulation.

3. Continue the process until your whole attic is complete.
