low hot water pressure mixer tap

Post by georgem » Sun Mar 09, 2008 2:23 pm

I have low hot water pressure thro' bath mixer tap, has been like this from new, new build. Water pressure from sink next to bath is OK. Water pressure from sink in en-suite next door has OK water pressure, as does downstairs taps. Sink next to bath produces at least four times more hot water in volume per same time, measured when trying both taps separately. Someone has suggested fault is at mixer tap - circlip bent/twisted and requires repairing/replacing? thoughts on this?

suggestions/comments appreciated

George :(

certainly sounds like a faulty tap though it could be that the tap itself requires a higher pressure of water than is being received. newer taps and imported taps often require higher hot water pressure than is given in a traditional gravity system...more adept to combi systems

is the hot water supply to the mixer a flexi pipe, if so it may have been twisted on installation. make sure there is no kink in it that would restrict the flow.

thanks for the reply
hot water supply not a flexi pipe
blockage? jiggered tap? been advised it may be a twisted/slipped circlip on tap?
bit frustrating as it has been like this since new, very slow/low fill rate to bath

As the pressure has been bad since you bought this new house, it sounds to me that it could be some grit/flux/debris stuck in a mesh filter somewhere in the tap. There may be one on the end of the spout which can be taken off with a spanner. Failing that, there may be one in the tap body. Hope thats some use to you.
