Low voltage lights and dimmer

by devils advocate » Sun Jun 03, 2007 10:38 am

Hi,

I've just replaced two standard ceiling fittings with 2 low voltage units. each unit has an electronic transformer powering 8 x 10w halogen bulbs.

My problem is the wall dimmer switch. when i switch it on, it makes a buzzing sound, which is noticeable at all power settings.

How do I get rid of the buzzing?

Many thanks

dev

Hi DA
check dimmer is suitable for electronic trans. & if not replace with Quality make with a range that covers your load IE 160Watts , most dimmers make some noise no matter what make & type

Many thanks Sparx.

The dimmer does say its ok for electronic transformers, but I'll see if I can swap it for a better one in the shop I got it from.

I suspect that it's me trying to do it on the cheap again!
