Main switch tripping

by russellfl » Tue Aug 28, 2012 11:08 am

Hi, can anyone advise?

I live in an area that has a lot of power cuts, usually only for a few minutes at a time. What quite often happens is the main trip switch on my RCD consumer unit trips at the same time, which is ok if i'm at home, but causes problems if i'm away for a few days as my freezer thaws out. Is this a fault with the ccu? as it's a few years old? or is it normal to trip out during a power cut?

cheers

It is normal.

However not all RCD's are the same. The X-Pole is claimed to trip less with this type of fault and there are even auto resetting types but at £350 each not really an option for home supply these are for things like remote pumping stations.

Google "Xpole entering the digital age" and read the document.
