Making a table lamp from an old tree trunk

Hello

I have part of a tree truck (photo attached) which I would like to use as the base of a battery-operated table-lamp.

I assume I would need to drill a hole into the top and into which the 'stem' of a table-lamp would be inserted. Is that all I would need to do,
apart from removing the base of any new table-lamp that I bought?

I am open to any other ideas about how to use the trunk - it will be a feature in my living-room.

Thank you.
