Moving socket after radiator install

by proftanda » Sat Feb 05, 2022 1:27 pm

We’re moving a radiator to an outside (solid brick) wall.

There’s currently a mains socket directly in the middle of the spot we’ve chosen.

Our heating engineer is booked to install the rad next week. We’ve struggled to find someone to move the socket before the rad’s installed so we’re now looking at just putting a blanking plate in.

However it’s the only socket on this side of the room so we wondered whether an electrician installing a new socket next to the rad, after the rad has been installed?

Is there anything we can check or do when we install the blanking plate to make installing a new socket easier in the future?

Thanks!
Nick

Why do want to install a blanking plate? You would have to get Wagos to terminate the existing cables in.
Why not just leave the socket where it is and tell the heating engineer that you understand you will not be able to use that socket, that way when ever you have an EICR it will be obvious that socket is still probably connected.

Thanks for the reply. If it’s better to leave it then we’re happy to just do that.

The socket is the only one on that side of the room, on the ground floor in an external brick wall.

I guess our question was whether an electrician would need access to the socket if we wanted one added nearby on the same wall?

And if there’s anything we could check or do now ourselves to help prep for adding a socket? Eg. Photograph the wiring or connect and feed additional wires along any conduit?

Thanks again!

To install another socket on that wall ideally would require access to the socket that will be behind the radiator. But be it a socket or blanking plate that is there, the fact remains that the cables will still be in the wall.
