Need help rewiring old double switch to new switch & dim

by pjlr » Mon Oct 11, 2010 10:45 am

I've got an old switch which controls two separate lights (there are 2 switches in the old unit). I'd like to replace it with 2 new switches--one regular switch and one dimmer but can't get it to work. I've included below a link to a diagram I've made to make it all clear how the old switch was wired and what I find on the 2 new switches. Is there anyone out there that can tell me what to do?

Thanks in advance for your help!

C is same as Com and L1 = W1 plus L2 = W2 one would think standard switch will have three reds into C (Com) and Yellow into L2 like other switch. However one wonders why three reds in one hole? I made this diagram "ericmark.talktalk.net/lights.bmp" does that help?
