Need Help Wiring Light but no Picture of Existing Fitting

by Les Fielding » Mon Nov 04, 2019 6:50 pm

Trying to reinstall ceiling fixture but no picture was taken of previous wiring for droplight. I've attached a picture of wiring and fixture.

The switch plate has two switches on it. One controls this hall light and the other controls an outside light. Pulled off the cover plate and the switch box has two red wires, one going to the L1 and L2 on each side and the yellow SL going into COM on one side with a crossover wire to the other COM. The blue and black neutral wires are going to an old style connector block. This is its original wiring as it was never touched.

I’m guessing the yellow is SL and goes to L, the reds into a block, E to E. What about the black and blue?

Any help much appreciated.

Sadly it is not a case of "put this wire here, that wire there and Robert is your mothers brother" (It is up the individual who installed it as to what colour is used for what)
You will have to get a competent person in to test everything to find out what does what.
