Have replaced old Manrose ceiling extractor fan in our bathroom with new one, BVF100S standard model. The previous fan was wired so that it came on and off when the ceiling light pull cord was used. Connecting the new one was no bother, but is comes on when the light it turned off and goes off when the light is turned off. What went wrong?
Wired between lamp switched line and permanent line would do that. When the lamp is off the switched line (often blue wire with a brown sleeve on it) will be connected by the lamp to neutral.
Likely you have just selected switch line and line instead of switched line and neutral so likely the permanent line is brown and is used for run on only and this is where the neutral should be.
