new to UK buildings pls help

We're thinking of buying a detached 1930s property built on a slope. It has an unconverted cellar where you can see steel beams as well as a no of brick pillars. Are steel beams a normal foundation or do they indicate previous problems with subsidence?

Alirus

the conveyancing process you will be going through should indicate any previous subsidence problems.

You most certainly should commisison an independent survey, preferably a building survey with the details you have provided. Contact the RICS . org for a surveyor in your area.

Hope this helps.
