Overflow pipe constantly dripping

by sideways11 » Wed Apr 30, 2008 3:50 pm

Hi,

The overflow pipe from the cold water tank in the loft is constantly dripping.

I had a look, expecting the ball cock to need it's height adjusting or a leaky valve.

In fact, the vent pipe from the immersion tank on the first floor landing is discharging in to the cold water tank at a constant drip. This forces the water level up to and down the overflow pipe.

I do not know how the immersion tank works in detail. Is there a valve that shuts the cold water when the tank is full that may need replacing.

The overflow drips wether the immersion tank is cold, heating or hot.

Can someone please help.

Many thanks

S,

PERPLEXING!!!

ALL I CAN THINK OF (RIGHT OR WRONG) AT THIS PRESENT TIME IS:-

IF THE EMMERSION TANK IS AN INDIRECT CYLINDER, THEN THE THE COIL INSIDE "MAY" BE SPLIT ALLOWING HEATING WATER TO COMBINE WITH HOT WATER AND THE EXTRA VOLUME WOULD VENT TO COLD SUPPLY TANK AS THE HEAD OF WATER IN THE F&E TANK IS AT THE SAME LEVEL OR HIGHER THAN C W S TANK AND THE CIRCUIT IS OPEN.

IS THE F&E TANK CONTINUALLY SLOWLY FILLING TO REPLACE LOST WATER?

IS THE DRIPPING WATER DISCOLOURED?

DOES THE C W S TANK WATER LOOK CONTAMINATED AT ALL?

THERE MAY NOT BE ANY SIGNS OF CONTAMINATION IF THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR SOME TIME!

ALDA.
