Plasterboard over wallpapered wall, glue or battens?

Post by estherita_gs » Thu Nov 25, 2010 11:17 pm

Hi there,

I am starting renovation works at home and was wondering if someone could tell me if it is possible to fix plasterboard over a wallpapered wall using glue rather than screwing to battens.
We had planned to remove the wallpaper and then plasterboard it but the wallpaper leaves a horrendous trace of old glue/paste and it takes a lot of time and muscle to remove. it.

If you can't glue to wallpaper, can you glue to the wall with the traces of old glue or will that make the sticking unreliable?

And why can't one screw the plasterboard straight onto the wall (if the wall is perfectly flat)?

Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Esther

Just remember it wont be the glue thats holding the sheets on more like the paste. If the walls are already gyproc then try find the old studs and fix them to that.
