Pump/ Shareflow valve problem or maybe boiler?

by peatoire » Mon Nov 19, 2007 6:40 pm

After coming back from holiday I noticed only the upstairs radiators were working now neither hot water or CH is working, my system uses a sharflow valve which is connected to the thermostat & controller and directs water through either the HW cylinder or both HW cylinder/ Central heating system.
What seems to be happening is that the pump (although makes a strange noise from time to time) appears to br working ok, it's a Grundfos one where you can take off the screw on the fron to see if its turning, after around 5 mins the pump itself gets very hot and sounds like th water inside it is atrting to boil. The shareflow valve can be bypassed manually by a lever underneath which directs the water as mentioned above. The thing is, no water is getting past the pump and I can't be sure whether it's the pump, the valve or maybe even the boiler (potterton)
Any advice much appreciated
Cheers
Andy
