Rails and Stiles on 84 Year-Old Exterior Are Separating (as door had twisted)

by Candelle » Mon Jun 29, 2020 12:12 pm

I'd be really grateful for advice and help, please.

Our 84 year-old front door twisted slightly and we put bolts across the inside in order to be able to shut it. We think it has straightened a bit.

At the same time I painted the exterior side and this is now separating around all rails and stiles (i.e. the paintwork has cracked around all panels but it is A1 elsewhere). We guess that the old glue has given up and the door has obviously been put under strain (by our internal bolts!).

My question is, what can I use between the rails and stiles prior to re-glossing the exterior side? The cracks are small but visible and run around each panel of the door. Difficult to put anything in. Ideas?

Many thanks in advance for any help!
