Re-use bathroom 3-core fan cable for attic light?

by IrlAndy » Sun Jan 08, 2017 11:28 pm

A few years ago I had a fan removed from my bathroom. This was switched by one gang of a two gang light switch in the landing.

As a result, I have an unused 3-core switched cable In the attic.

I'm now looking to install a light in the attic. Is it OK to use the 3-core cable, using the switched live only?

Yes, but you will also need a neutral and earth connection.
If the cable is three core and earth, then you can disconnect the spare conductor and place both ends in an insulated connector to prevent any accidental contact with live parts.

Thanks! Probably should have mentioned the earth and neutral also... It's 3 core plus earth.

I was planning on just terminating the permanent live in the spare terminal in the 4-way junction box. However, I'll take your advice and disconnect safely on the other end also.

Cheers,

Andy
