red marks on walls and ceilings

Postby Jayemac » Sat Jun 28, 2014 2:29 pm

Hi,

Can anyone help. We live in a 2 bedroom cottage that we have been decorating over the last 6 months. The problem I have is that I have red marks appearing on all of of the newly painted walls and ceilings. they dont appear straight away but are multiplying. I've attached some examples and they are all pretty similar in terms of shape and size. they almost look like crayon marks but we dont have any crayons !

thanks

Jaye

Hi Jaye,

Unusual !! There was no image attached so could not see. If you could attach an example of the problem we can take a look.

Hi, they certainly do look like crayon bleeding through the new paint. Try using a degreaser to remove them https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/DIY-superst ... 500ml.html ,

then paint over them with stain block, https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/DIY-superst ... 400ml.html

then repaint.

Good luck and please do let us know how you get on. It is unusual problems like this which, once solved, can help a lot of people

I wish we could help (you dont have kids with a wicked sense of humour and a red crayon do you?!). If it's an insect it's something we havent seen before and the fact that its on the blinds rules out damp marks bleeding through......I really hope someone else can help so we can all know the answer !!

Good luck and please do let us know how you get on..

Hi,
It’s been a while since this was posted, but maybe someone found out what that was.
I noticed such marks on the walls in my previous appartement - I cleaned it before moving out, but it was not an easy task. After I moved to a new place, I noticed similar marks on kitchen cabinets, which made me look it up on the Internet. I don’t know what that is, it is rather difficult to remove and I don’t want to scratch the surface of the cabinets.
I’m curious what causes such marks - it’s impossible that it’s crayons (I don’t have children).
