Replace both 2 gang light switches

by Chriscmartin » Fri Jul 24, 2020 7:17 pm

Looking forward help please.

I am changing the switches on a 2 gang light circuit but I’m a little confused.

The existing switch says L1 (red wire) L2 (blue wire with a red sleeve) and L3 (yellow wire with a red sleeve)

The new switch says L-in Slave L-out

The existing switch says L1 (brown wire) L2 (blue wire with a brown sleeve) and L3 (brown wire)

The new switch says L1 Slave L

Can you please advise how I wire these in?

Hi chriscmartin
From your description it looks like both circuits are two way switching. Your replacement switch may be one way switching so you need to check before proceeding.

Chriscmartin, make and "model" of your switch please, is your new switch a "smart switch"?

Hi yes sorry I meant 2 way not 2 gang.

The switch I have is a Energenie MIHO043 smart switch which is a 2 way master and slave switch.

I am assuming that the colours you have given are for two switches, one at each end of a hall/corridor/stairs

As the colours are not the same at each end it is not possible to say exactly how to connect your switch, I only wish it were.

However I can tell you the following (same for each switch)

The live goes into L
The switched live goes into L1
The slave goes into S

You appear to have 2 browns in your 2nd switch, I am sorry to say I can not help you further as it needs investigating with a multi meter (And the competence to know how to use one)

The existing switch says L1 (brown wire) L2 (blue wire with a brown sleeve) and L3 (brown wire)
