sealing up air vent

by jason h » Fri Jan 02, 2009 8:37 pm

recently had new fire fitted - living room has low level air vent which is no longer needed (on corgi installers advice) and looking for advice on best low cost/highly effective way to seal up, to prevent draught in living room, as front of property is exposed to all weathers and can prove v. draughty and noisy

In the past I have removed the internal cover and filled the cavity with polystyrene foam blocks salvaged from carton packaging.

I presume you now have a balanced flue fire?
If so squirt a can of poly foam into the space, that will give you a perfect seal, that is far warmer than anything else.
