Side extension up to neighbours building

Post by NikkiMB » Mon Oct 26, 2020 9:18 am

Hi all,
I wondered if you could help?
We have a 3 bed semi with a side driveway between us and next door. The driveway is 2.4m wide up to the fence and that fence is right up against next doors single storey extension.
We are wanting to do a double storey extension (workshop and utility below with bedroom above) on our side driveway but are concerned as next doors guttering overhangs the fence between us.
As the side space is pretty narrow anyway, we don't want to lose any potential land of ours. If we got planning permission for the extension, is there a way of re-doing their gutters so they're smaller and don't protrude over the boundary line? We get on OK with the neighbours so wouldn't want to fall out over gutters, but we also want to make our house use able for us as well.
Thank you!!

Hi nikkimb
Unfortunately this is a common problem and the only solution is to build your wall inside your boundary clearing the neighbours gutter.
