Slating Starter Course on a "Non-Square" Roof

by RM87 » Thu Nov 28, 2019 9:08 am

On one side of my new extension I am having an issue on how to lay out the starter course and begin slating. The roof is approx. 4m wide but it is 4.1m from ridge to eaves at one side and 2.7m ridge to eaves at the other so it runs off at an angle due to the angle of the driveway below.

Can anyone give me some help in how to do the starter course and begin the slating? I have managed to do the other side of the extension with little problems but this is the first time I have slated and worried I am over thinking it and getting confused.

The pitch is low at only 15 degrees and I have had to get slates at 500x300 to cope with this. They are held in place with hook fixings apart from the slates around the edges have to be nailed. Lap is 150mm.

Any help would be appreciated, I can email drawings, pictures etc if that would help.

Thanks, Ross
