Sub Floor for Tiling and Minimising Impact on Finished Floor Level

by Davidjon » Mon Aug 12, 2019 1:30 pm

I would like to Tile my hallway and need to minimise the impact this will have on the finished floor level, to provide a smooth transition to an adjoining room. Do you think it would be acceptable for me to do the following: -

Remove the existing floorboards.

Use the floorboards to provide a 70mm X 20mm lining to the sides of each joist, 18mm from the top.

Fix 18mm wb ply between the joists

Overlay with 10mm backer board.

Lay 9mm thick porcelain tiles with thin set flexible adhesive to the backer board.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
