TV aerial

by poppyo » Fri Nov 27, 2009 10:20 am

Hello. We have installed a wall mounted Technica TV in a ground floor extension. There was just an ordinary TV before with an outside aerial on the roof of the extension. This was no good for the new TV
We bought a signal booster with no improvement
We put up an outdoor high gain digital aerial but we can only get analogue programs. Freeview is pixillated - lots of different colours
What else can we do?
Should the aerial be higher than the roof of the extension?
We seem to be spending a lot of money with no result!
Thank you for any help

Analogue TV has ended now in most places.
Not all of the places that have changed over to digital can receive a signal at this time but, some transmitters and sub stations will be increasing their power output once the change over is finished.
You should go to the digital TV site, put your post code in and see if they think you can receive a signal.
If they say you should be able to receive a digital signal then your aerial may be wrong.
Do you have a direct line of sight to your nearest transmitter?
That is to say standing with your head between the aerial and the transmitter is there anything in your line of sight that blocks your view of the white fibre glass sleeve?
Another point, some signals require a TV aerial in an upright position some in a horizontal position.
Look at nearby houses to see what position their aerials are in.
Do you have a relatively normal outside aerial or a high gain aerial?
Was it bought locally?
Have you tuned in your set top box or TV to receive the digital signals?
