Upvc window gap

Post by Steve jam » Thu Mar 26, 2020 7:08 pm

Hi all, I moved into my house last year. All of the windows upstairs have huge gaps in them, some of them I can actually fit a whole finger down the hinge side and can see daylight. These windows were only installed in 2011.

As per advice I’ve seen I have bought some new hinges. Just replaced a pair on one window but unfortunately the gap is still there.

I’m at a loss now as everything I’ve seen in relation to upvc windows with gaps suggest the resolution is to change the hinges.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance

Hi Steve jam,
The issue will be the location of the hinges on the opening part of the window. The fixed part of the hinge always fits tight into the corner of the frame so you may need to do some careful measuring to determine where to fix the moving bit so that the window is central in the frame opening.
Not all hinges are equal so it may be a trial and error exercise.
Regards,
S
