Can lightweight aerated blocks be used outside and then renderd with stone cladding

Hi I'm a leckie but was asked today by a 'builder' if your gonna render them why u using b-heavy concrete blocks when u could use 'celcon'???!!!!

I was told that you cannot use celcon lightweight blocks outside and then render with stone or slate cladding somthing to do about dampness

You Can use lightweight aerated blocks, when you render use a water repelent.
