Washing Machine Cold Water Pipe Pressure Makes Noise When Filling

Hello,

When my washing machine is filling it is making a rather alarming noise within the cold water pipe. This can be relieved by turning on the kitchen cold water tap, but I obviously need a long term solution before it causes more significant problems. Any advice would be gratefully received!

Can you be more descriptive about the noise? Is it a hammering noise for example?
