HOT WATER CYLINDER - Which way to turn red valve?

by dipatt » Sat Aug 29, 2009 6:44 pm

Hi, I have just moved into an old house and am on a low income. When I put the oil-fired central heating on the water is luke warm after eg 2 hours. If I use the immersion heater the water gets cold quickly (there is insulation attached to the hot water tank/cylinder).

I have a red valve tap at the top of the hotpress cylinder and tried turning it and wonder if I have made it worse.

Could some kind person please tell me should it be turned fully clockwise or anti-clockwise to ensure the water is heated and will possibly remain warm enough the following day?

Thank you

Di
