Wiring basics

by Dirk123 » Tue Jun 26, 2007 7:40 am

Hi,

Can anyone exlain to me the basics of how a ceiling light is wired up to a circuit?

I have just tried to replace a bathroom light with some strange results!

There is a fan in the bathroom.

But when I wired it up how I thought it should be the kitchen lights stopped working, and I can turn the bathroom one on from the kitchen!!

There seems to be four grey wires coming from the ceiling each with three wires in them.

The light fitting is a downlighter so I have just put the earths into a connector.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I hope your down light is suitable for bathroom zone!
'project' section shows how to do this work which as in bathroom & kitchen areas should be done by someone qualified, to be safe.
