Wooden Pergola Help With Securing Pillars

Post by samuelodog » Fri May 10, 2019 11:42 am

Hi - I'm building a wooden pergola using reclaimed round pillars. The pergola will go on a patio that has paving slabs. My question is - how is best to secure the pillars? Should I use the round brackets and drill/screw into the slabs? Shall I remove the slabs beneath the pillars and dig a small footing and then secure the brackets to that?

How can I hide the brackets also?

Thanks!

Hi,
I think the pillars will need to go into the ground (quite deep too) or you'll have to replace the slabs with a specialist system slab / bracket / augur.
But thats just after a few minutes research into my own project.

Have you thought about helical piles to secure the pillars ?
