New House with Warm Roof However no Insulation on Loft Floor

Postby Helpmeplease1 » Thu Oct 15, 2015 5:53 pm

Hi,
Hope someone can advise me!
Have bought a house which has ( im told) a "warm roof"! However, apart from the roof insulation there is no other!
Is there a reason for this or should there be insulation on the loft floor?
Thanks in advance

Hi Helpmeplease1,
Thew term Warm Roof is typically used to describe a roof construction which has a layer of insulation above the rafters, and immediately below its weatherproof membrane.

They are 'breathable' so reduce the likelihood of damp, without the need for extra ventilation. They allow the use of the loft space for use as a living space.

There are structural challenges as the insulation sits between the roof covering and the rafters that would normally support it's weight. This is particularly challenging for pitched roofs.

Please see this project (about 1/2 way down for more information on Warm Roofing: http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/bu ... t_roof.htm

If I understand the questions correctly, there is no need for insulation on the floor of your loft, as the insulation is in the roof construction - assuming that there is sufficient thickness in the roof construction.
