Channel 4’s Grand Designs is a ‘must watch’ for anyone interested in property design. It also gives the guys in our office a certain amount of satisfaction to scoff at how amateurs always underestimate the time, money, and effort it takes to build a project that is genuinely bespoke.
Mind you I don’t think they will have much to complain about when they see this house in Camden, London, when it is unveiled on 11 September, with its contemporary eco-friendly design including a basement Gym and pool in a stylish family home
One of our advertising partners has been involved with the planning and creation of the leisure area over the last couple of years. The stunning lap pool, which features in the programme, was fitted by Polypool who were chosen for the project because of the eco credentials of their product. By using the Polypool panels the owners have achieved an overall U-Value of 0.18 for their pool, which means they retain 96% of the heat energy in the water. You can see how much money you can save with having one of PolyPool’s insulated pool by using their online calculator.
The panels are also easier to transport, and if you watch the programme you will see that two-thirds of the house is built underground, so transporting materials becomes a real issue if the components are not easily portable.
The pool also features a salt water chlorinator which uses a smaller quantity of chemicals to sanitise the pool water, so it is better for the environment.
If you want to see the whole project tune in to Channel 4 at 9pm on 11 September.
